Dalyan 1995
This must have been one of our first visits to Dalyan. We stayed in Hotel Ozalp, which was Faruk's hotel, and we could look out over the cotton fields. They are sadly no longer there, as Dalyan has expanded and all the fields have been built upon. At this time, most of Dalyan didn't have proper roads other than the main drag.
His brother Ali, also has a hotel, where we've also stayed, but I think his focus is his boat. We went on lots of trips with Ali and his wife who did the cooking, and where I learned to make the Aubergine dips directly on an open fire. Ali took us to Koycegiz lake which is a fresh water lake, the mud baths, Ekincik and the blue caves.
This trip we usually travelled to Iztuzu beach by boat down the Dalyan river, past the Lycian rock tombs, but in later years we preferred the Dolmus over the mountains as the other end of the beach was much quieter with less tourists.
We also crossed the Dalyan river and walked down to Kaunos, which used to be a Roman outpost with a harbour and ampitheater. Something to be visited early in the morning or later on in the day.
