Steve's website

This is our simple website - running on a beaglebone black, it hosts our favourite recipes and cakes, and things that interest us. There's an area for the kids for when they start to learn computing at school, and a personal blog for us all

Beetroot and Turnips

Beetroot are relatively easy to grow in the allotment, but you need some creative ideas as 300 bottles of pickled beetroot will last a lifetime.

The kids aren't keen on it and every meal with a purple stain is a lot to handle....so this year I've tried different varieties - the golden one which this year wasn't successful yet, and the stripy red and white one which worked well but doesn't seem to cook that well.

So this section is still a work in progress

  1. Roasted veg
  2. Baked, swede with thyme and parmesan
  3. Turnip and potato gratin
  4. Pickled beets
  5. Peach and beet salad
  6. I've also tried beetroot tart and beetroot chocolate cake - both need quite some work to get the kids to appreciate it, although I did like the cake.
